The Great Adventure

In May I set out on my "great adventure" (as Dana calls these things) to see my (Montgomery) relatives in the Southeast - namely Louisiana and Mississippi with a stop in Houston to round it off. However, I also made a stop in Tubac, Arizona to visit John Egan and other members of the Noon/Slaughter Clan. John was kind enough to let me copy a lot of old photographs which came into his possession upon the death of his mother earlier this year. There were several of real interest including an early one taken in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, of Emma Slaughter - - to my knowledge the earliest known photo (of her); she was probably about 16 at the time. There was also one of Edward Slaughter (father of Emma) which I had never seen - still elderly but a good one for the collection. It is my guess it was taken about the same time, if not on the same day, as the one of his spouse, Catherine Cronk. There were also several unknowns and we all shall have to work on

these in the future.

As for the photos, the young lady at top is Emma Slaughter and was taken in Port Elizabeth, South Africa - - she looks to be to be about sixteen so would probably date to about 1860. On the left is Edward Slaughter and below John and myself standing outside his home in Tubac. I want to thank John for the opportunity to copy the old photos and documents - his patience and understanding with this project was just great.
